President Obama Meets with CAPAC in a Historic Meeting

For the first time in history, the President of the United States met formally with the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) today. President Obama and senior members of his staff met with CAPAC in the Cabinet Room of the White House, where they discussed, among other topics, immigration reform, AAPI judicial nominations, health disparities, data disaggregation, and White House engagement with AAPI communities.

Labor Day Tweets

Hope everyone is enjoying their Labor Day Weekend. I thought I would share a couple of tweets from some of our elected officials and candidates in 2012, reminding us the importance of working men and women and how the Obama Administration needs to do a better job of helping the American public. (Surprisingly, not as many politicians tweeting about this as I would've thought.)

Doris Matsui Votes to Expand Access and Increase Affordability of Health Care

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (CA-05) joined her colleagues in the House of Representatives to pass H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act.  This legislation will reform our nation’s health insurance system, make health coverage more affordable and accessible, and increase the quality of care for all Americans.  As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Rep.

Doris Matsui comes out strong for public option

Here's some great news out of the California capital from the Sacramento Bee. Congressmember Doris Matsui (CA-05), who had previously hosted two tele-townhalls to discuss healthcare, firmly came out in support of the public option, as well as expanding coverage and cost-cutting measures, this weekend. At a civil townhall on Saturday, Matsui addressed 700 of her constituents.

Doris Matsui to host healthcare townhall this Saturday

After holding two successful teletownhalls on healthcare reform, Sacramento Democratic Congressmember Doris Matsui is going to meet face-to-face with her constituents. Perhaps now that the craziness of August has died down, there can be a civil discussion at her event.

Doris Matsui to host second teletownhall, Sept. 17th

After hosting a successful teletownhall two weeks ago, Congressmember Doris Matsui (CA-05) will be doing it again. Here are the details she just sent:

Doris Matsui Responds to Obama's speech

Here's Congresswoman Doris Matsui's response to President Obama's speech last night.  As other AAPI politicians weigh in, we'll share their thoughts as well.

Doris Matsui Healthcare Teletownhall Draws 11,000

Here's a press release from California Democrat Doris Matsui's office. Doris just held a telephone town hall on healthcare reform and 11,328 phoned in. Obviously her constituents are in CA-05 interested in this subject.

Asian American Democrats discuss healthcare on NPR (transcript)

Congressmembers Judy Chu (CA-32) and Mike Honda (CA-15) were on NPR's Tell Me More this morning to discuss healthcare reform. Great to see them discussing the public option and how their constituents are in favor of it.  Please continue to support these courageous Congressmembers who are under a lot of pressure to give in to the White House which seems desperate to cut a deal. (Who knew throwing temper tantrums, lying and bringing guns to townhalls would get you what you want.)
