It seems fitting that New York City, the crux of the U.S.’s rich immigrant history is leading a new direction in the movement for immigration reform.


The Dollars and Cents of Comprehensive Immigration Reform

Examining the many variables that shape the debate over immigration reform leaves one to conclude that not only is comprehensive immigration reform the morally and ethically right thing to do, but it is also the economically right thing to do. The demand for low-wage undocumented workers as firms compete for cheap labor, and an increasingly costly enforcement-only immigration policy, combine to produce a perverse perpetuation of a deepening underground and dangerous movement of people across our borders.


White House Conference Call on Financial Reform, Today

Asian homeownership drops

Ouch! Here's an article out of the San Gabriel Valley News, "Homeownership fell in '08; Asians hit worst." While the impact on our community seems to have caught most economists off guard, they seem to be chalking it up to the fact that California has been hit exceptionally hard and that there are a lot of Asian Americans in the state.


California State of Emergency - 3.3 billion in IOUs issued

I'm surprised given how many Californians are on this site that this hasn't been posted or being discussed.  The Governator has declared a state of emergency.  Every year California runs into to trouble passing the budget, but this year it's different, unemployment is at a 26 year high with those left employed seeing 10, 20, 25% salary reductions.
