APAP Event in LA: "What Now?"

A couple of weeks ago, in his State of the Union address, President Obama gave a general outline of what he hopes to achieve in the next Congress. But how realistic was it and how can progressives actually achieve any victories in the next two years. Please join us for a potluck brunch where we will be joined, via skype, by Carlos Uriarte, Legislative Counsel in Congresswoman Judy Chu's office.

TAKE ACTION TODAY: Health Care for Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) is at Risk

We have an urgent request. Health care reform for AAPIs is at risk. We can't let the new leadership in Congress return us to the days when insurance companies were free to do whatever they want with no accountability, such as denying coverage to children with asthma and other pre-existing conditions, or doubling premiums, and imposing higher costs on families and small businesses.
A House vote to repeal health care reform is scheduled for TODAY, Wednesday, January 19th.

Senator Harry Reid just announced that the DREAM Act will be voted on in the Senate on SATURDAY, December 18th! We are a few Senate votes short and need your help to turn the DREAM into a reality.

2010 Census Outreach to Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders

Happy New Year! It's 2010, and no matter how you say it -- "two thousand and ten" or "twenty-ten" -- the new year brings one very important matter -- THE 2010 CENSUS!!!

Over the holidays, I noticed a good number of press releases and news items about efforts by AAPI community organizations to encourage, but I'm thinking that most of us were in the holiday mood, and could use a reminder of what's happening!

Join us on Mon., 11/23 -- Stand Strong for Inclusive Health Reform (SF)

Communities of color from across California are gathering at the health reform table because we are part of this country. Back in Washington, DC, people like Rep. Joe Wilson represent America’s worst. On Monday, November 23, in San Francisco, we will assert ourselves as immigrants because we are America. We are disappointed about how public conversations about who immigrants are have led to the exclusion of immigrants in health reform legislation.
