Earlier this fall, students, staff, and faculty across the University of California demonstrated against the 32% tuition fee hikes. What was intended as peaceful protests for some in the recent weeks, ended not only in arrests--but also beating, tasering, and shooting of students by police and demonstrators at various campuses, including UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Davis.

Bobby Scott: House Passes Historic Health Insurance Reform Legislation

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act, by a vote of 220-215.  The legislation will lower health care costs, provide access to care for 36 million Americans, and provide a public option for consumers to help encourage competition among insurers and drive health costs down.


Mona Pasquil named interim Lt. Governor of CA

On Tuesday, Lt. Governor John Garamendi of California won a special election to replace Representative Ellen Tauscher in the U.S. House of Representatives. This left a temporary vacancy in his current position that has now been filled. The lucky replacement is his chief of staff, Mona Pasquil.


Equity, now what?

Celebrating the close of Filipino American history month, the Smithsonian Museum honored the Filipino World War II veterans, who were denied equity due to the Rescission Act of 1946, which stripped Filipinos of their US citizenship and deemed them US nationals. Speakers recognized the passage of appropriated through the economic stimulus bill that was passed this year due to Senator Inouye’s leadership on the Senate Appropriations Committee.
