LGBT/Pride Week

June is LGBT pride month. We have a variety of queer AAPI's, friends, families and allies posting about their experiences. Thanks to Be DeGuzman, one of APAP's 2009 Unsung Heroes, for coordinating this special week of posts.

To help with our upcoming hate crimes/Vincent Chin week (June 21) or Pacific Islander week (Aug), please let us know. If you have a topic you or your agency would like to coordinate, email us.

RNC trying to raise money with "Census" Theme

Found this article on my Monday morning: Even After Law Aimed At Banning It, RNC Still Sending Misleading 'Census' Mailer.

The Republican National Committee is continuing to send out a misleading fundraising mailer labeled "Census Document," just weeks after Congress passed a law aimed at banning such mailers.

Asian American candidates fundraising numbers

John Liu Raises Big Bucks

john_liu_bio_pic Good news from the John Liu campaign. Liu has just maxed out in his race to become the Public Advocate of New York City. That's over $3,850,000, nothing to sneeze at. I'm not really sure what the Public Advocate does, but according to their website:

The Public Advocate solves problems on behalf of all New Yorkers. Over 12,000 cases are handled directly every year by the Ombudsman's Unit and it is this real world experience that helps shape the Public Advocate's policy directives.

The news couldn't come at a better time for Liu as his campaign faces its biggest challenge yet.
