Goodwin Liu nominated for California Supreme Court

Great news out of Sacramento. After his nomination to serve on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals was derailed by Senate Republicans, Professor Goodwin Liu has just been nominated to serve on the California Supreme Court by Governor Jerry Brown. Last week, the Senate voted 56-42 in favor of confirming Judge Edward M. Chen to serve as a federal district court judge for the Northern District of California. Now the vote for judicial nominee Professor Liu to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit will occur in the next two days.


Edward Chen confirmed

After being repeatedly block by Republicans, Judge Edward Chen has finally been confirmed to be a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Northern California District earlier this week. The Senate confirmed him by a vote of 56-42. The number of Asian American federal judges is not at all-time high, doubling from seven to fourteen, since President Obama took office. We now focus our attention on getting nominee Goodwin Liu to becoming the fifteenth.

WASHINGTON - The Senate Judiciary Committee recommended Judge Edward M. Chen and Professor Goodwin H. Liu for federal judgeships today, prompting leaders from the Asian Pacific American community to call upon the full Senate to confirm them before breaking for the midterm elections.

There were 12 participants at this lively house party, including APAP board members, students, business and community leaders. Following the call, participants discussed issues of concern and three key issues rose to the top: Immigration, healthcare and education, particularly the funding of schools.
