AAPIS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY FOR JOBS IN GOV.-ELECT JERRY BROWN'S ADMINISTRATION

The transition recruitment has begun for Gov. elect Brown and we are
trying to get the word out to any potential API candidates who would
be interested in an appointment to the Brown administration or on
boards and commission. Please review the appointments available on the
jerrybrown.org web site and complete the application form. This
starts the process and make a conscientious evaluation of skills and
experience that are relevant to the designated position.

APAP PAC Endorses Deval Patrick for Massachusetts Governor

Deval Patrick recognizes the importance of the Asian American community in his state. He has appointed a diverse administration, including over 70 Asian Americans to State Boards and Commissions, compared to one appointee during the previous administration. His professional work includes work at the NAACP and Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights under President Clinton.

A few weeks ago, Asian American candidate Nikki Haley was little known outside South Carolina. Now she is at the center of sensational sexual allegations--and the subject of increasingly vicious racial attacks.


Hansen Clarke joins Governor's race in MI

Here's an interesting development out of my home state. This past week, Lt. Gov. John Cherry, the presumed favorite, withdrew from the race for Governor of Michigan. That has opened up a floodgate of new candidates, including progressive State Senator Hansen Clarke. Sen. Clarke was kind enough to join us at the kick off of our APAP Chapter in Detroit last year. We definitely look forward to supporting him as well.

Races to Watch: Val Kilmer (NM-Gov)

NM-Governor Bill Richardson is term-limited out in 2010 and the candidates are starting to test the waters. One interesting name popping up is actor Val Kilmer who has actually lived in the state for the past twenty years.
