Vincent Chin and his Unintended Gift

Today, I was able to catch a screening of Curtis Chin's "Vincent Who?" at the UCLA School of Law and to make sure I would make it to the screening on time, I left two hours in advance but thanks to my terrible driving, atrocious traffic at the 405, and my unfamiliarity with the UCLA campus, what should've taken 25 minutes ended up taking two hours.


Asian American Civil Rights Groups Applaud Signing of Federal Hate Crimes Legislation

The Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC) and Asian American Justice Center (AAJC) applaud President Obama for signing the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr., Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009. The new law expands the federal definition of a hate crime – which currently covers attacks motivated by race, color, religion or national origin – to include gender, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity.

Once again, Congressmember Judy Chu (CA-32) has proven herself to be a strong ally of the gay and lesbian community by voting, and voicing, her support for the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act. The bill pass by a vote of 281-146 and now goes to a final ratification by the U.S. Senate early next week.

Another Deliveryman Killed: Why Its Not Just A Simple Robbery

Last week, another Chinese food deliveryman, Thu Nguyen was killed.  His wallet and car were left untouched, but the order of food he was to deliver was taken.  Police later reported that he had been lured to the building by a face order placed by the attacker.
