Calvin Say needs to grow a backbone

Why can't Democrats learn how to fight for anything? Recently, the Hawaiian Senate passed a civil union bill by a margin of 18-7. The measure now moves to the State House where the Democrats outnumber Republicans 45-6 and passage is almost certainly guaranteed. However, the House Speaker Democrat Calvin Say says he may not even bring it up for a vote because he may not have the votes to override an anticipated veto by Republican Governor Linda Lingle.

Colleen Hanabusa set to run for Congress

Here's some exciting news out of Hawaii. Democrat Colleen Hanabusa, the state Senate president, is expected to soon announce her candidacy for the First Congressional District in Hawaii. That's the seat being vacated by current Representative Neil Abercrombie who is stepping down to run for Governor.

Eric Shinseki tours veterans center with Senator Daniel Akaka

As the politicians in DC continue their August recess, we find Secretary of Veteran Affairs Eric Shinseki joining U.S. Senator Daniel Akaka, chairmen of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs, joint headlining a meeting at the Kaua'i Veterans Center in Hawaii.
