CAPAC Celebrates Passage of Historic Health Care Legislation

Washington, DC – Today, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) celebrate the passage of historic health care legislation. The legislation provides health care coverage to 32 million more people in the U.S., and will reduce the deficit by over $1.3 trillion over the next 20 years.

 


Neugebauer (TX-19) ID'd as 'Baby Killer' Shouter

Howard Dean on the Senate healthcare proposal

As many of you know, Asian Pacific Americans for Progress came out of the Howard Dean campaign back in 2003. (We officially incorporated as a separate organization in 2005.) Senate Healthcare Plan To Cover 94% Eligible Americans

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and other Democrats unveiled the senate’s healthcare plan known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to the public on Wednesday on Capital Hill. The proposed 2,074-page senate healthcare bill would overhaul the existing healthcare system while reducing the federal budget deficit. 

 


Bobby Scott: House Passes Historic Health Insurance Reform Legislation

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act, by a vote of 220-215.  The legislation will lower health care costs, provide access to care for 36 million Americans, and provide a public option for consumers to help encourage competition among insurers and drive health costs down.


Doris Matsui Votes to Expand Access and Increase Affordability of Health Care

Historic Healthcare Reform Bill Passes with Joseph Cao (R)

The Healthcare Reform bill has passed the House of Representatives in Congress with a 5 vote margin: 220-215! One GOP Representative voted in favor of the reform... Joseph Cao (R) of Louisana.


Representative Honda Introduces Bi-Partisan Bill to End Hepatitis Epidemic

Representative Mike Honda recently introduced Viral Hepatitis and Liver Cancer Control and Prevention Act of 2009.

The bill has support from various politicians, both Democrats and Republicans, that addresses a national problem infecting many Americans with the diseases.

According to the National AIDS Treatment Advocacy Project (NATAP), hepatitis b infects 1.25 million Americans, half of whom as Asian Americans.


Long Live Public Option

Public option is still alive and running.

Today Senate Majority Leader Senator Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has announced that the Health Care Bill will include a public option plan.

In order to galvanize support from various sides of the political spectrum, he has included a bill that allows individual states to 'Opt-Out' Public Option.

I've concluded --with the support of the White House, Senators Dodd and Baucus -- that the best way to move forward is to include a public option with the opt-out provision for states
