Howard Dean speaks out against Senate healthcare bill

See video

Governor Howard Dean came out against the Senate healthcare bill yesterday, calling it an insurance giveaway. He seems to be the only person willing to stand up to Joe Lieberman. In short, Dean says, when asked if Democrats should support this bill: "No, absolutely not. You can't vote for a bill like this in good conscience. It costs too much money. It isn't health care reform. It's not even insurance reform." Check out the complete video as he talks about reconciliation and how the Democrats can move forward.

Diabetes: A Silent Killer of Asian Americans

Last month marked National Diabetes Awareness Month, yet diabetes remains one of those diseases that remains largely misunderstood by the population at large.

Mother’s Kettle Corn & the American Marketplace

Mother’s Kettle Corn & the American Marketplace
By EunSook Lee

I travel out of town for work for many weeks out of a year, so whenever I am in Los Angeles, I feel like I am rushing to squeeze as much out of the limited days I have in the office. I do that so that I can spend special time with my children. And, when we can, we make sure to stop by the farmer’s market. We go for our favorite: standard American kettle corn.

Join us on Mon., 11/23 -- Stand Strong for Inclusive Health Reform (SF)

Communities of color from across California are gathering at the health reform table because we are part of this country. Back in Washington, DC, people like Rep. Joe Wilson represent America’s worst. On Monday, November 23, in San Francisco, we will assert ourselves as immigrants because we are America. We are disappointed about how public conversations about who immigrants are have led to the exclusion of immigrants in health reform legislation.

Making Room for Everyone at the Health Reform Table

The reality is that as we come closer to the passage of health reform, many immigrants are going to be left out.

White House statement supporting HR 3590

The Administration strongly supports Senate passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (the proposed substitute to H.R. 3590), which represents a critical milestone in the effort to reform our health care system.  This legislation meets the President’s criteria for health insurance reform:  it provides stability and security to those with insurance; offers access to quality, affordable health care for those who do not have insurance; cuts costs for families, small businesses and the Government; and does so without adding a dime to the deficit.

Never mind the Obama/Pelosi Newspeak, the healthcare reform needs to die.

Last fall, I though I was voting for change.

I was in Harlem the election night, and it felt like there was some vindication.

But we cannot live on symbols alone.

It seems, however, that Obama administration has betrayed the progressives on most pertinent issues of the day.

Judy Chu’s Statement on House Passage of H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act

“With today’s passage of H.R. 3962, America has never been closer to truly reforming our broken health care system,” said Rep. Chu. “The magnitude of this accomplishment cannot be overstated: for six decades, Congress and a number of presidential administrations have tried – and failed – in this monumental task. So President Obama and our Leaders in Congress deserve great credit for bringing us this far, and I am honored and humbled to have been a part of the debate over what I truly consider to be the most important piece of legislation of this century.
