Judy Chu organizes in-district swearing in ceremony

In front of a diverse crowd of over 1,500 enthusiastic friends, family and supporters, Congressmember Judy Chu (CA-32) held an in-district swearing in ceremony at East LA College today.  It was a homecoming of sorts as Judy taught at this school for many years, starting in the 80's and up until her election to the California Assembly.

For those of you in Los Angeles, Congressmember Judy Chu (CA-32), the newest Congressmember and first Chinese American woman, will be holding an in-district swearing in ceremony on August 30th. (Her official ceremony was held in DC earlier.) Her predecessor and mentor, Hilda Solis, will be doing the honors. Here are the details.

Judy Chu Wins!

Congresswoman Judy Chu.  Sounds great, doesn't it?

After a rough and tumble six-months, ever since President Obama nominated Hilda Solis to be his Labor Secretary, California Board of Equalization member Judy Chu has finally won her race to represent CA-32 in Congress. She overcame a tough primary with Gil Cedillo and a primary opponent, Betty Chu, who was running on Judy's name. According to this CQ Report:

GOTV weekend for Judy Chu, July 11-12th

The special election to replace Hilda Solis is just around the corner on July 14th.  Given the Democratic registration advantage, I think many of us assume Board of Equalization member Judy Chu is going.  However, you never know, and it's important that we make sure Judy wins.  Here's an email I just got from her campaign:

Judy Chu Wins!

UPDATED (July 15, 2009): Judy Chu wins the general election.  Click here for more details.

Vote for Judy Chu Today in the Special Election for CD32!

(From APAP Board Member Ramey Ko)

Today, Tuesday, May 19, is the special election to fill the US Congressional seat left vacant by Sec. of Labor Hilda Solis. If you or someone you know lives in the district, Judy Chu needs your vote!

California's 32nd Congressional District contains portions of East LA, Monterey Park, Rosemead, El Monte, South El Monte, Baldwin Park, Irwindale, Azusa, Duarte, Covina, and West Covina - much of the San Gabriel Valley. California Board of Equalization Member Judy Chu has represented much of the district before in the State Legislature, as a City Council Member, and as a Mayor. The district is known for its large Asian American population, but the Latino population is even larger. However, Dr. Chu's record of strong advocacy for all the people in the district has earned her the support of most of the Latino community leaders.

UCLA Labor Center Director Kent Wong on the Employee Free Choice Act

Hi Friends, The other day, I caught up with UCLA Center for Labor Research and Education Director Kent Wong to ask him a couple questions about the Employee Free Choice Act.  He was super nice and we conducted a quick Q/A over the phone.  I have it all transcribed and ready for your viewing and listening pleasure below.  (Except for my badly mangled photoshop attempt)

Congress introduces Employee Free Choice Act!

Quick reminder: The Employee Free Choice Act is the reason us Progressives were ready to fight the all-in good fight for this person below.

The Employee Free Choice Act was introduced in Congress today and members of the Corportocracy Elite are deathly upset.  This includes virtually all conservative members of Congress on both sides of the aisle. Bernard Marcus, former CEO of Home Depot, is so upset about the Employee Free Choice act that in a conference call with other Corportocracy Royalists called this legislation the "demise of civilization!"  Don't believe me?  I even have the audio below.
Bernie Marcus claims the Employee Free Choice Act will be the demise of civilization as we know it

Hilda Solis Confirmation Vote Tonight

hildasolis Update: Solis confirmed as labor secretary Most eyes are on President Obama as he addresses Congress tonight. But progressives are more excited about the long-delayed vote to confirm Hilda Solis for the Secretary of Labor. After stalling her nomination for weeks, the Senate Republicans have finally given up their obstruction of one of the most progressive members of Obama's Cabinet. According to Sam Stein at the Huffington Post:

Republicans in the Senate just agreed to unanimous consent on the California Democrat's nomination for the labor post, according to a labor source. That means that no cloture vote is needed and Solis will be confirmed should she get more than 50 votes. In short: she will be the next Labor Secretary.
