Howard Dean speaks out against Senate healthcare bill

Governor Howard Dean came out against the Senate healthcare bill yesterday, calling it an insurance giveaway. He seems to be the only person willing to stand up to Joe Lieberman. In short, Dean says, when asked if Democrats should support this bill: "No, absolutely not. You can't vote for a bill like this in good conscience. It costs too much money. It isn't health care reform. It's not even insurance reform." Check out the complete video as he talks about reconciliation and how the Democrats can move forward.


Howard Dean on the Senate healthcare proposal

As many of you know, Asian Pacific Americans for Progress came out of the Howard Dean campaign back in 2003. (We officially incorporated as a separate organization in 2005.) In many ways, he and the many organizations and websites that now form the core of the blogosphere and progressive left are our natural allies and kindred spirits. That's why what Governor Dean says matters. Here's a blog entry he just posted over on Daily Kos entitled, "We can have both."


Howard Dean for Health and Human Services

Now that former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle has withdrawn his nomination for Secretary of Health and Human Services, it's time to look for a replacement. And since Obama has selected Republican Senator Judd Gregg for Commerce, let's hope he's done appealing to conservatives and finally throws another bone to us progressives.
