June is LGBT pride month. We have a variety of queer AAPI's, friends, families and allies posting about their experiences. Thanks to Be DeGuzman, one of APAP's 2009 Unsung Heroes, for coordinating this special week of posts.

Tammy Duckworth for Lieutenant Governor?

Wow, it seems like just yesterday we were discussing Raja Krishnamoorthi as the Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. Now word comes out that Governor Pat Quinn would actually like to add Assistant Secretary of Defense Tammy Duckworth to the ticket. It's great to see so many qualified Asian Americans being concerned for top level positions.

After suffering a narrow loss for Illinois state comptroller, Democrat Raja Krishnamoorthi now has his sights set on a bigger prize: the state's Lieutenant Governor. According to the Peoria Journal, Krishnamoorthi is letting it be known that he wants to be considered for this office on the Democratic ticket.

After a see-saw night where the lead kept switching back and forth, Raja Krishnamoorthi has finally conceded the Democratic primary race for Illinois Comptroller.


Two Asian American candidates pursue statewide office in Illinois

For the past few election cycles, the Asian American community in Illinois has been looking for a candidate who can win and give voice to their concerns. In 2010, the'll have two options: Democrat Raja Krishnamoorthi who is running for State Comptroller and Republican Steve Kim who just announced his run for State Attorney General. They both face competitive primaries next February 2nd.


Asian American Republican in Illinois as sacrificial lamb

In 2004, the Republican Party in Illinois was looking for a sacrificial lamb in the race for U.S. Senator. Democratic nominee and then-State Senator, Barack Obama, was cruising in the polls and the G.O.P. was desperate for a candidate who could show that their party was just as inclusive as the Democrats. Without any available options in the land of Lincoln, the state G.O.P. had to recruit someone from Maryland, Alan Keyes. He lost bad.

Democrat Raja Krishnamoorthi, who is running for Illinois State Comptroller, recently announced that if he were elected he would enact measures to make state government more open and accountable to the media and voters.


Raja Krishnamoorthi to Announce IL Comptroller Candidacy this Weekend

Exciting news out of Illinois. Former Deputy Illinois Treasurer Raja Krishnamoorthi will launch his campaign for Illinois State Comptroller with events in Chicago and Peoria on Sunday and Monday.
