Joseph Cao's reelection strategy

Here's an article from the Seattle Times on the tightrope that Louisiana Republican Joseph Cao has had to walk as he tries to run for re-election in a heavily Democratic district. He voted against Obama's economic stimulus package, but then turned around and provided the lone Republican vote for health care reform.

APAP denounces racist attacks against Joseph Cao

There's been a lot of nastiness coming from the teabagger-birther wing of the Republican party in response to G.O.P. Congressman Joseph Cao's recent vote on the healthcare reform bill in the House. While APAP has issues with the Louisiana Congressman's anti-choice reasonings, we signed on to a letter denouncing the racist remarks.

Joseph Cao releases statement on healthcare vote (update w/ video)

UPDATE 11/8 - Here's new video from a CNN interview that Rep. Joseph Cao just did, explaining his vote. It's interesting that he says he called Obama to give him the head's up, but also to reaffirm the needs of his post-Katrina Louisiana district and of Vietnamese Americans all across the United States. Even though he's not a progressive, I have to admit, I sometimes feel for the guy.

Historic Healthcare Reform Bill Passes with Joseph Cao (R)

The Healthcare Reform bill has passed the House of Representatives in Congress with a 5 vote margin: 220-215! One GOP Representative voted in favor of the reform... Joseph Cao (R) of Louisana.

Asian American politicians battle over high speed rail

Let's call it the Battle of the Bayou. Down in Louisiana, Governor Bobby Jindal and Congressman Joseph Cao are at odds in a little Republican party battle. Governor Jindal continues to try and court the right-wing for a future Presidential run while Congressman Cao, who is fighting for his political life, tries to appeal to the middle in his uphill re-election bid. Guess which side won?

Joseph Cao still vulnerable

Despite his attempts at faking out his constituents into thinking he's not a Republican, Louisiana Congressman Joseph Cao still remains vulnerable.

Joseph Cao Defends Obama's Right to Address School Children

To the left. To the left. Everything he owns in a box to the left. Louisiana Republican Congressman Joseph Cao continues to distance himself from the base of the Republican party. As the GOP extremists were criticizing President Obama's speech to schoolchildren, more "moderate" Republican voices were voicing support for the President. Cao jumped on to this bandwagon.

Asian American Democrats discuss healthcare on NPR (transcript)

Congressmembers Judy Chu (CA-32) and Mike Honda (CA-15) were on NPR's Tell Me More this morning to discuss healthcare reform. Great to see them discussing the public option and how their constituents are in favor of it.  Please continue to support these courageous Congressmembers who are under a lot of pressure to give in to the White House which seems desperate to cut a deal. (Who knew throwing temper tantrums, lying and bringing guns to townhalls would get you what you want.)

Joseph Cao to host townhall on healthcare tonight

Just got a reminder from our friend Christina Wadhwani in New Orleans. Her organization, the Mary Queen of Viet Nam Community Development Corporation is hosting a townhall on health care with Republican Congressman Joseph Cao. Cao is a former board member of this wonderful and important community non-profit. Here is the information

Joseph Cao top Republican party pooper

Congressional Quarterly has just updated their list of House members and how often the vote with their party leadership. While most of the members who broke party ranks were Democrats in conservative districts, Louisiana Congressman Joseph Cao managed to top the list of Republicans. I guess it's because Cao's district gave President Obama 75 per cent of the vote in 2008
