Paull Shin: Could an Asian American be standing in the way of Equal Rights?

The Washington State legislature begins debate on a marriage equality bill tomorrow. It's a bill that, if passed, would make Washington the seventh state to offer equal marriage rights to its gay and lesbian citizens on a state level. (Full equal rights will require the removal of the federal-level Defense of Marriage Act.)

Judge Lucy H. Koh confirmed by Senate

Great news from the judicial front. Judge Lucy Koh was just confirmed by the US Senate as the first Korean American federal judge in history and the first Asian American judge for the Northern District of California, which includes San Francisco!

Too Much At Stake for Complacency - A Call to Action for Immigration Reform

Look at "those illegals,” my friend said jokingly while he was dropping me off to the Bart Station. He pointed at two Mexican immigrants standing against the fence. Although it was a joke, I was extremely angry. Yet, I was defenseless and vulnerable. I simply laughed with him and stayed casual as if nothing happened. Once he dropped me off, I wondered if he would treat me differently if he knew that I’m also “illegal.”

Marilyn Strickland prepares agenda

On election night last week, the results were too close to determine who would be the next Mayor of Tacoma. Progressive Marilyn Strickland began with a slight lead of under 150 votes. However, since then, she has managed to continually build on that lead and she is now poised to be the mayor of the state's third largest city.
