Right Wing Would Prefer Laura and Euna Stay in North Korea

Like most of the country, I was overjoyed to see Laura Ling and Euna Lee finally back on US soil.  Surprisingly, it appears that not everyone shares this opinion.  The right wing has seen the release of these journalists as a major blow to American prestige and indeed a few have suggested that Euna and Laura were better off imprisoned.

Lets start with possibly the worst ambassador to the UN that the United States has ever had: John Bolton

UPDATED: US Journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling Pardoned and Released!

A great birthday gift for President Obama! Following former President Bill Clinton's visit to North Korea to negotiate the release of imprisoned US journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling (sister of Lisa), North Korean president Kim Jong-Il issued a "special pardon" to both women and ordered them released. Lee and Ling were accused of illegally "sneaking" into North Korea and engaging in "hostile acts" back in March, and were sentenced in June to 12 years of hard labor.

Letter Writing Campaign and Vigil for Justice for Melissa Roxas

President Obama will be meeting with Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at the White House on July 30, 2009.  As I wrote last week, the Philippine government and military must answer for the abduction and torture of Melissa Roxas, a U.S. citizen and humanitarian health worker.

Melissa Roxas, Health and Humanitarian Worker, Fights Philippine Government after being Abducted and Tortured in the Philippines

This entry about Melissa Roxas has been overdue.  In this first half of the year, 4 Asian American women were abducted while overseas. I'm sure you can name the journalists - Roxana Saberi, Euna Lee and Laura Ling.  Have you heard about Melissa Roxas? She's not a journalist.  She's a human rights advocate and U.S. Citizen, who was working to provide healthcare in the Philippines when she was abducted and tortured by the state military.

North Korea Trial: Laura Ling and Euna Lee Sentenced to 12 Years of Labor

Reuters and the BBC report that North Korea has sentenced our brave heroes Euna Lee and Laura Ling to 12 years of hard labour in North Korea's concentration camps.

Free US journalists Euna Lee & Laura Ling

In addition to the recent capture and release of Japanese and Iranian American journalist Roxana Saberi by Iran, 2 other Asian American women journalists have been captured and detained by North Korea.  Please take a moment to act in support of Euna Lee and Laura Ling.  Below is a message from the petition posted at Care2.
