Who Gets Blamed for Maine Losing Gay Marriage?

Now we have Maine rejecting marriage equality. The results in Maine, a state that is 95.3% white, make it clear that we can't blame the people of color who live there. So who do we blame? My hunch is that rural white voters are on the hook. But the blame placed on rural white voters will be very different in its tenor and tone than Prop 8.

LGBT civil rights on the ballot... again

Okay, last night was a tough night for everyone following the results of Maine's Prop 1, the initiative to repeal marriage equality in Maine. From everything leading up to the vote, it seemed our side had done everything right. As a straight ally in the fight for marriage equality, I am often asked why I work on the issue of marriage equality.

Storm Front Approaching in Maine - Senate Passes Marriage Equality Bill

Today the Maine State Senate voted to pass LD 1020, the gay marriage bill in Maine. The bill passed by a narrow 20-15 vote and will now be sent to the House. At the same time, the senate rejected an amendment that would have brought the bill to popular vote in the state. Seems like state legislatures have seen the mess Prop 8 created in California and want to avoid that train wreck.

Maine Public Hearing Discussing Same Sex Marriage

About 4,000 gave up their day Wednesday for a public hearing at the Augusta Civic Center to discuss same-sex marriage bill in Maine. Thousands of proponents came out in red shirts to voice their opinions in support of a gay marriage bill.
