Tina Tchen to Join Office of the First Lady as Chief of Staff

 

The White House today announced that Tina Tchen has been promoted to Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff to the First Lady.  Ms. Tchen most recently served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Public Engagement, and as Executive Director of the White House Council on Women and Girls.  She will continue to serve as Executive Director of the Council in her new position.

Our pal Angry Asian Man notes that among the First Lady's special guests at tonights SOTU will be Li Boynton, a Houston, TX based teen who's one of 300 semifinalists for the Intel Science Talent Search (man, I remember when that was called the Westinghouse!).


Iron Chef America, Michelle Obama, and Chef Comerford

I'm sure a lot of people have heard about the Iron Chef America Super Chef Battle.  White House executive chef and Filipina American Cristeta Comerford teamed up with Bobby Flay to battle Emeril Lagasse and Mario Batali.  The secret ingredient: anything from the White House garden.  Can I just say... WOW! Access to fresh produce for so many communities is so limited. It's great that the First Lady Michelle Obama has committed to campaigning for healthier eating in the nation, as Chef Comerford discusses in her blog post, reposted here.
