Vallay Moua Varro takes office in Minnesota

Looks like the Asian American community could be gaining our own version of the Kenneday's, or at least the Sanchez sisters. That's Loretta and Linda Sanchez, two sisters from Orange County who both happen to be in Congress. In Minnesota, Vallay Moua Varro recently won her election to the St. Paul School Board, thus joining her sister, progressive hero and Minnesota State Senator Mee Moua, as an elected official.

Kham Xiong among dead at Ft. Hood

News continues to trickle out about the shooting at Ft. Hood, including information and profiles on the victims. Here's a report from KSTP in Minnesota on former local resident, Kham Xiong. The report is entitled, "Family mourns St. Paul soldier killed at Ft. Hood":

Vallay Varro, St. Paul School Board Interview

A few weeks ago I met with Vallay Moua Varro who is running for a position on the St. Paul School Board of Education. There has not been much news about Ms. Varro’s campaign. With the retirement of Republican Jim Ramstad and a Cook partisan index of R+1, both parties dumped major resources into the contest.

John Choi officially enters race for Ramsey County Attorney

A few weeks back, we reported that St. Paul city attorney John Choi was forming an exploratory committee for Ramsey County Attorney. Now he's made it official. At his official announcement ceremony Choi was surrounded by such supporters as St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, as well as state senators Mee Moua and Satveer Chaudhary, Ramsey County commissioners Rafael Ortega and Toni Carter and three members of the St. Paul City Council, among others.

Vallay Varro advances in St. Paul School Board race

In addition to the big races in New York City today, primaries were also held in Minnesota for St. Paul Mayor and several of the seats on the school board. The results are in and progressive Asian American candidate Vallay Varro has advanced to the run-off in November.
