He has appointed a diverse administration, including over 70 Asian Americans to State Boards and Commissions, compared to one appointee during the previous administration. His professional work includes work at the NAACP and Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights under President Clinton.

Recently, President Obama linked the healthcare debate to a civil rights. Now, a new coalition of civil rights groups, including the National Council of La Raza, the NAACP, and the California-based PowerPAC.org have joined forces to create a series of ads, in English and Spanish, in hopes of bringing minorities into the debate.
