Neil Abercrombie Announces Resignation Date

Let the games begin. Hawaii Representative Neil Abercrombie (HI-02) has announced he will be quitting Congress on Feb 28 to focus on his race for Governor. The progressive Abercrombie, who has represented his district since 1991, will first face Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann in a Democrat primary.


Update on Neil Abercrombie resignation

After receiving some criticism for announcing his plans to resign from Congress early to campaign full-time for Governor, Hawaii Congressmember Neil Abercrombie took steps to assure his constituents that he will complete the work on such important legislation as health care reform, military spending and the Akaka Bill before resigning his seat.


Neil Abercrombie (HI-01) to resign early; opens seat in HI

Really big news out of the Aloha State today. Rep. Neil Abercrombie (HI-01), who is running for governor of Hawaii, just announced that he's resigning his seat early to devote himself to campaigning full time.


Hawaiian state legislature cancels annual party

Here's a little piece that just appeared in the Honolulu Star Bulletin entitled, "No Party for You." It seems the Hawaiian state legislature has decided to send a message, and save a little tax-payer money, by canceling the annual kick-off party to start the legislative session.

Inouye and Akaka support Obama's Afghanistan troop increase, Abercrombie and Hirono question it

Reaction to President Obama's plan to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan continues to come in. Here's a report from the Honolulu Star Bulletin that shows the Hawaiian Congressional delegation split. Senators Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka have voiced their strong support for the escalation in forces while Representatives Neil Abercrombie and Mazie Hirono have raised questions.


Colleen Hanabusa set to run for Congress

Here's some exciting news out of Hawaii. Democrat Colleen Hanabusa, the state Senate president, is expected to soon announce her candidacy for the First Congressional District in Hawaii. That's the seat being vacated by current Representative Neil Abercrombie who is stepping down to run for Governor.
