John Liu, Peter Koo, Margaret Chin Sworn Into New York City Offices

Yesterday, John Liu was sworn in as New York City's first Asian-American City Comptroller.  He took an ambitious tone promising among other things to provide for an equitable distribution of contracts as well as oversight on the city's budget.  A major problem with said contracts is the lack of these contracts awarded to minority owned businesses.

Asian Americans top most expensive campaigns for NY City Council

Asian Americans running for office in New York City had a banner year this past cycle, not just with the record-number of candidates, but also the amount of money they raised. In fact, the three most expensive campaigns for New York City Council were all run by Asian Americans: Kevin Kim, Yen Chou and Peter Koo.

As rising political star John Liu prepares to ascend to the second-highest elected office in New York City, Liu must figure out the type of working relationship he wants with the recently re-elected mayor, Mike Bloomberg.

John Liu in the news

After Wednesday's historic victory by New York City Councilmember John Liu to become the city's Comptroller, the media is giving him plenty of coverage. Here are clips and links to a few of the top stories.

John Liu campaign update

Less than 48 hours away from the big election day in New York City on November 3rd. Here's an email we just got from the John Liu campaign. It's got a lot of links to news articles about their candidate.

Dear Friend,

GOTV for John Liu in the Democratic Primary Runoff

Tuesday September 29th, 2009 is the runoff election in the Democratic Primary for the New York City Comptroller.  The turnout is expected to be abnormally low, so in this case every vote really DOES count.  In the past week conservative news media in the city have intensified a smear campaign against John Liu, a campaign that is rooted in, dare i say it, racism.  Certain forces in this city are committed to preventing the first Asian-American from holding citywide office by inventing false ties to shadowy conspiracies.  They pain br

John Liu for City Comptroller Update

As we all know, New York City Councilman John Liu won his primary last Tuesday, besting a competitive field with 38% of the vote for the office of City Comptroller. Unfortunately, Liu barely missed the 40% necessary to avoid a run-off with second place finisher David Yasskey, so the two top finishers have to face off in a Democratic run-off on Sept. 29th.  Here's an update of links that the campaign sent out earlier today.

Poll Finds Asians Overwhelmingly Backed Liu... D'uh

When the New York Times published this article about the recent primary in Gotham city, "Poll finds Asians overwhelmingly backed Liu," they were merely stating the obvious. Anyone who has done any election work, knows that people are often partial to members of their own tribe.

John Liu receives positive mention in NY Daily News

When I read the conservative New York Daily News and see a headline like "Two Controller hopefuls flub budget quiz", I half expect the article to be about New York City Councilman John Liu and his race to become City Comptroller. Afterall, the publication has been giving him a lot of bad press lately.
