After a public battle with breast cancer over the past six years, progressive hero Elizabeth Edwards passed away today. She was 61 years old.

Progressives had a lot of battles in 2010. From the rise of the tea party to the continued anti-immigration, anti-gay and anti-worker policies and a disappointing midterm election, we definitely had our hands full. Fortunately, we have a lot of bright, creative and energetic people (and organizations) on our side. We'd once again like to take the time to recognize them for all their hard work and commitment to equality, fairness and progressive values.


Jean Quan close to becoming Oakland's 1st Asian-American & Woman Mayor!

Jean Quan is close to becoming the first Asian-American woman to run a major U.S. city in next week's Oakland Mayoral challenge. Jean is a true progressive that believes in grassroots democracy.  Over the years, she has organized for better schools, good affordable housing, and diverse communities that work together.  


Making LGBTQI issues politically local issues

All politics is local

This week I attended a town hall meeting by Congresswoman Judy Chu on the issue of repealing the discriminatory policy of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in the United States Armed forces and the negative impact that this unfair policy has had on the lives of so many of our brave men and women serving in the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force.  I was moved by the stories of those on the panel who spoke about their commitment to protecting this nation and the pain of having to conceal their sexual orientation in order to serve. 


Update on Neil Abercrombie resignation

After receiving some criticism for announcing his plans to resign from Congress early to campaign full-time for Governor, Hawaii Congressmember Neil Abercrombie took steps to assure his constituents that he will complete the work on such important legislation as health care reform, military spending and the Akaka Bill before resigning his seat.
