Mental health and South Asian communities


As the country debates healthcare and insurance reform, I thought it was important to discuss some of the health disparities that the members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities may be facing, in particular South Asians. To begin with, I am a Child and Adolescent psychiatrist (yes, that makes me a physician).

Did anyone else catch the Scripps National Spelling Bee last night? It's amazing how the event has been elevated to prime time!!! I LOVE the Asian American (Ok... admittedly Desi) DOMINANCE!  In addition to Kavya, my favorites were Kyle Mou (he looks a little like my brother when he was younger!) and Kennyi Aouad. Yes folks...
