Tammy Duckworth for Lieutenant Governor?

Wow, it seems like just yesterday we were discussing Raja Krishnamoorthi as the Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. Now word comes out that Governor Pat Quinn would actually like to add Assistant Secretary of Defense Tammy Duckworth to the ticket. It's great to see so many qualified Asian Americans being concerned for top level positions.

Tammy Duckworth Flies Again

Here's a great story in the Chicago Tribune about Assistant Cabinet Secretary Tammy Duckworth. As you'll recall, Tammy lost both of her legs when a rocket propelled grenade shot down the Black Hawk helicopter she was piloting in Iraq. That was nearly five years ago. Now she's back to flying again.

Here's an excerpt from a new essay on veteran care from Cabinet Secretary Eric Shinseki. While it's great to hear the Secretary discuss the need to invest in educating our veterans and providing them affordable housing options, one area not discussed is health care.

General Eric Shinseki has been tapped to serve as Secretary of Veteran's Affairs. You will recall that back in 2003, General Shinseki advised that it would take hundreds of thousands more troops to secure Iraq. He was right.

Veterans Groups Pushing Tammy Duckworth for VA Secretary

According to Sam Stein of the Huffington Post, Democratic-leaning veterans groups are organizing a grassroots effort, including an online petition drive, to promote Iraq veteran, former congressional candidate, and current head of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Tammy Duckworth for Secretary of Veterans Affairs in the new Obama Administration.
