H/T to Secret Identities editor-in-chief and Asian Pop columnist Jeff Yang for catching this at Talking Points Memo. On July 7, 2007, Tom Tancredo aide and former Tancredo speechwriter Marcus Epstein pled guilty to assaulting a Black woman, calling her the n-word and delivering a "karate chop"(!) to her head. Apparently Epstein himself is hapa - half Jewish and half Korean. To quote Jeff, who wrote about this at the Secret Identities blog:
It's amazing that Tancredo has been able to find a proxy for his loathsome views who's actually more insane and racist than he is. It's sad that he happens to be Asian American, though one somehow doubts that he uses that label proudly, any more than Michelle Malkin.
Tom Tancredo, of course, is the rightwing nutjob representative from Colorado (R-6th), who has been at the forefront of the attacks on Supreme Court nominee, Judge Sonia Sotomayor, calling her (among other things), a "racist" and a "Latino KKK without the hoods and nooses." (Btw, this is also the same guy "who called Miami a 'third world country' because of the number of Latinos there, criticized presidential candidates for 'pandering' by participating in a Spanish-language debate, and accused immigrants of 'pushing drugs, raping kids, and destroying lives.' He said the issue of immigration is 'whether we will survive.'" (And somehow, I don't think that "we" includes us.)
Epstein will be sentenced on July 8, but intends to continue working at Tom Tancredo's Team America PAC (and for a great takedown on this unintentionally hilariously named PAC, I refer you once again to Jeff) until he leaves for law school in the fall at the University of Virginia Law School. (Or maybe not - according to The Washington Independent, apparently by late Monday afternoon, the Law School was telling reporters that Epstein would not be joining the class of 2012. Oh snap!)

Apparently, he was a drinker and was recently diagnosed with "bipolar depression". As always, conservatives LOVE to point out how wrong they consider the medicalization of evil but have no problem adopting that stance when it applies to them.
The only good news is that we probably don't have to pull his Asian membership card ;)
Oh, I dunno. I'm perfectly fine with pulling his AAPI membership card just for liking Pat Buchanan and Tom Tancredo alone. (To quote Wanda Sykes, "What's up with the half-white guy?" ;)
Lousy upbringing... I wonder who taught this brother to hate.
