National Republicans were all excited when they got their preferred candidate, California Assemblymember Van Tran to run against Democrat Loretta Sanchez in CA-47. But the road to DC may not be as easy as he, or the national GOP thought it would be. For one, Tran has now picked up some serious competition in the primary. According to Politico:
Orange County businessman and Marine veteran Quang Pham told the Orange County Register that he was filing paperwork to enter the race for the California 47th, setting up a potentially divisive GOP primary between Pham and State Assemblyman Van Tran.
This could make for a bruising primary, as Pham has some fighting words:
“There’s a big difference between the two of us,” Pham told the Orange County Register. “Who has created jobs versus who is a career politician? Who has served in the military and knows about Afghanistan? Given where the state is today, being a state legislator could be an asset or not.”
The article also points out that...
Pham’s entry into the race indicates the Vietnamese bloc may be split with fissures and lingering anger with Tran’s role in a bitter contest for a Board of Supervisors seat in 2007, where Tran denounced the winning candidate as a communist.
Add this to some other old controversies that could re-ignite, including accusations of censorship and his wife's criminal record, and you start to wonder, if the national GOP were having dreams of another Ahn "Joseph" Cao, or if their overall prospects for 2010 are so bleak that this is the best they could do.
Quang Pham is going to drop out at the end of the day, as he has always. Pham has no name ID and no base of voters. Good luck trying to bash Tran. He's gonna kick Loretta's ass. Yes, there's reason to be afraid Dems! Keep spinning as if Loretta is an angel.
Really? That's fascinating. When did Quang Pham last drop out?
He only just formed an exploratory committee so I'm pretty sure Quang Pham hasn't officially filed yet (I doubt that you can yet).
Also, why do you like Assembly Member Tran? Is it just because he's a Right Wing Republican?
This is all news to me that people still like him (his polling is horrible).
