In what could be Kal Penn's first White House email since joining the Obama Administration, he invites AAPI leader to join the White House and the Corporation for National and Community Service to "to get an update and find out how we can further engage your organization and by extension the greater AAPI community."
Last month, President Obama unveiled United We Serve, an extended call to service challenging all Americans to help lay a new foundation for growth in this country by engaging in sustained, meaningful community service. The initiative is led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency dedicated to fostering service in communities across the country.
From June 22 to September 11, United We Serve will engage Americans from coast to coast in addressing community needs in education, health care, energy independence, economic renewal, disaster preparedness, veterans care, and other issues. To encourage participation in service this summer and beyond, the Serve.gov website features a volunteer matching platform called All For Good that allows people to search for volunteer opportunities based on location and interests.
The Administration is seeking to further engage the Asian American and Pacific Islander community and amplify outreach efforts in the cause of volunteerism. We hope you can take time to join us for a conference call to get an update and find out how we can further engage your organization and by extension the greater AAPI community.
Some ways to get your community involved in the President’s call to service most immediately:
- Post to Serve.gov opportunities for Americans to volunteer in your organization.
- Send a message about United We Serve, including a link to the President’s video, to your distribution lists and newsletters.
- Put a link on your homepage to Serve.gov – banners and logos are available at http://www.serve.gov/link.asp.
- Issue a press release about your participation in United We Serve – use our downloadable sample press releases and media advisories to fit your organization’s needs in promoting volunteer opportunities in your communities. (You can find them to the right of the linked page in the “Promote Your Project in the Media” section).
- Share stories about how your volunteers are making a difference at http://www.serve.gov/share.asp. We will highlight examples of exemplary service throughout this summer on our blog. This has been a good avenue for greater awareness of your issues.
I left off the conference call number just in case the number wasn't supposed to be viraled out. Email me if you want it.
